Intangible Heritage Series
Department of Tourism & Culture, Abu Dhabi
Abjad was asked to create a series of cultural books for children that reflected several of UAE’s cultural intangible heritage. Al Sadu is a traditional weaving skill in the United Arab Emirates. This activity guide aims to allow children explore the art of Sadu weaving as it reflects part of the heritage and traditions of nomadic communities that practice it, especially those who lived in the deserts, oases and some of inland areas of the Emirates. Al Ayala is a traditional performing art of the UAE where both men and women take part in celebration. This activity guide aims to teach children the region's national identity, instilling pride in the heritage of humanity as a whole. Al Sadu and Al Ayala are successfully recorded among other local forms of art on UNESCO's representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
